Those Who Feared the Lord Spoke with One Another

Your First Seven Days with Christ: Day 5.

“Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another. The LORD paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the LORD and esteemed his name.”

Malachi 3:16

Reflection

In a hard time, many among the people were saying, “It is vain to serve God” (Malachi 3:14). And at that very time, those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The text does not give their names or their number, but it says that the Lord paid attention and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them. Their simple words to one another were precious to him.

Faith in Christ is not a path you walk alone. Everyone who believes in Christ becomes one of the “members of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19), part of the family of believers. This family is the church of Christ: his people, before it is ever a place or a building. In it we encourage one another and pray for one another. Perhaps today you live somewhere you do not know a single believer. That is hard, but it does not mean you are outside the family.

Wisdom matters a great deal here. Do not reveal your faith to someone you do not trust, and do not agree to meet people you do not know just because they say they are believers, even if you got to know them online. We do not arrange any in-person meetings through the website, so be careful of anyone who asks to meet you in our name. Begin by praying that God will give you a brother or sister in Christ you can trust, and talk to us about your circumstances before taking any step.

A question to reflect on

Is there one believer in your life whom you trust? If not, are you praying for that?

Today's step

Today, pray in your heart for every believer you know, and name each one before God, without writing the names down anywhere. And if you do not know anyone yet, ask God to give you brothers and sisters in Christ you can trust.
