If Any of You Lacks Wisdom

Your First Seven Days with Christ: Day 6.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

James 1:5

Reflection

A few days after coming to faith, the practical questions begin: Should I tell my family? What do I say if someone asks me? How do I live out my faith in a home that knows nothing about it?

These are real questions, and there is no single answer that fits everyone, because each person's circumstances are different. That is why God gives us a precious promise: whoever lacks wisdom should ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach. He does not scold you for asking.

Wisdom does not mean giving up Christ, nor acting recklessly. Christ himself knew how hard the road would be when he said to his disciples, “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16). Loving your family is part of wisdom: honouring them, serving them, praying for them and being kind to them.

Do not rush into a big decision. Ask for wisdom, wait, and talk with the person who accompanies you spiritually. And if you do not yet have a spiritual companion, some members of our team accompany new believers by message: they answer their questions, pray with them and walk with them through their first steps.

Today, ask God for wisdom for one specific situation, and name it before him in your prayer. Then wait, and do not rush. And if the situation concerns your safety, read Your Safety First and write to us through the contact page before taking any step, even under a pseudonym. Prayer

O God, you give generously and without reproach. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to stay silent, and how to love and honour my family as I follow you. Amen.
