How We Protect Your Story and Your Data

We do not promise you absolute confidentiality; no one can do that online. But we do promise to be honest with you: here is what we ask of you, who reads what you write, where it passes through, and what we cannot protect.

Many of the people who write to us live in circumstances where being interested in Christ can be costly. So we want you to know what happens to your message after you press “Send”, so that you can decide what to write.

What we ask of you, and what we don't

  • We do not ask for your real name on any form. A pseudonym is always acceptable, and you can write without a name at all.
  • We do not ask for your address, your city, your phone number, your ID number, your photo, or the names of your family members or friends.
  • If you would like us to reply, leave a way for us to reply that you choose yourself, ideally an email address that does not carry your name.

Who reads what you write

Your message is read by a small group from our ministry team, and prayer requests are prayed for by a few trusted members of the ministry team. We do not sell, rent or publish your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

We do not publish anything you write to us, or your story, unless you ask us to or give your explicit permission.

If your message suggests that someone's life is in danger, or that a child is being harmed, we may share it with one of the people responsible in the church's leadership, so that we can work out how to act wisely.

We are not an emergency service, and our reply may take a while. If you are in danger right now, first contact your local emergency services or a trusted person near you, and read what to do if you are in danger.

Where your messages pass through

We do not have our own servers. Instead, we use technical services provided by other companies. Your messages pass through some of them, and we name them for you plainly:

  • The hosting for the website and its database, which the forms you send from the website pass through.
  • The email service through which we receive form messages and the emails you write to contact@yemen4christ.org.
  • The external AI provider that runs the automated assistant on the website, if you use it. The assistant is a program, not a person, and it can make mistakes, so do not write anything to it that identifies you.
  • WhatsApp, if you choose to message us there. In that case we can see your phone number, and the conversation is subject to the policy of the company that owns WhatsApp.
  • The payment processor, if you make a donation.

How long we keep what you write

We do not want to keep what you write for longer than we need to reply to you and pray for you. We are working on setting a clear period for each type of data, and we will state it on this page once it is agreed.

If you want us to delete your messages now, ask us at any time, as explained in the next section. And remember that a copy of your messages may remain on your own device, so delete it from there if that is safer for you.

What we cannot promise you

  • No system on the internet is completely secure, and that includes ours.
  • We cannot protect your own device: your browser history, the WhatsApp app, and the messages that stay on your phone.
  • We cannot stop the email provider or WhatsApp from applying their own policies to the messages that pass through them.

That is why we always say to you: write only what you need to, and leave out anything that identifies you.

Why do we care about this?

Because keeping safe what people entrust to us is part of the faithfulness God asks of us. The Bible says:

“Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.”

Proverbs 11:13

We ask the Lord to help us be faithful with what you write to us, just as he is faithful to us.

Your right to ask and to request deletion

You can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to contact@yemen4christ.org. You do not need to explain why. It is enough to tell us the pseudonym or the channel you used to contact us, so we can find your messages.

We delete what is in our own records, and we reply to your request as soon as we can. But we cannot delete what remains on your device, or with companies such as WhatsApp.
