A Freedom Only Those Who Have Lived in Chains Know

Addiction was a prison I built with my own hands. It started small, the way every dangerous thing starts: a little step here and another there, until I found myself in the darkest room of my life. I couldn't give it up despite trying again and again, and neither my willpower nor my promises worked.

I met someone who had once been like me, and I saw a light in his eyes that I didn't understand. He told me about Christ who sets people free, who accepts a person with all their losses. I read his words in the Bible: “and the truth will set you free.” I thought it was just a phrase, but it became my life.

Since I received Christ, freedom has been growing in me day by day. Not because I am strong, but because the one who gave me his strength is stronger than everything that held me captive. Today I am free, with a freedom only those who have lived in chains know.

To everyone fighting their battle in secret, I say: there is a hand waiting to take hold of yours.
