A Prayer for Making Peace with the Past

Lord, you who make all things new, you said: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing.” Before you I now release what I have been carrying from the past: old wounds, disappointments, hurtful words, and the guilt you have forgiven me but that I still carry. Heal what I cannot heal on my own. Help me truly to believe that you are doing something new in me. I do not deny the past, but I choose not to let it rule me. Your mercies are new every morning, and I want to begin each day afresh with you. Amen.
