When God Seems Silent

The prophet Habakkuk watched injustice rise and asked God why he seemed silent. Then he came to this confession: “Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines … yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:17-18). One of the hardest kinds of faith is holding on to God when he does not seem to be speaking. But God's silence does not mean he is absent. We may not understand why the answer is slow in coming, yet the Bible teaches us: “for we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

If you are in a season of silence, don't be afraid to tell God what is in your heart, as Habakkuk did. Being honest with him is part of faith, not the opposite of it.
