I am what God says about me

I did not know who I was. I was born into a setting that told me who to be, and I grew up with every mirror I looked into broken. I tried to please everyone and lost myself along the way. The big questions screamed in my mind: Who am I? Why am I here? Does my life have any meaning?

When I read that God says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,” everything stopped. Someone knew me before anyone else did? These are not cold words; this is a father speaking. I wept like a child hearing his father say his name for the first time.

In Christ I found what I had been looking for: an identity built on a love that does not change. I am not what people say about me; I am what God says about me, and he says I am precious in his eyes.
